Popular Substitutions and Additions

Substitutions:

  • Jackfruit: If you’re looking for a vegetarian or vegan option, jackfruit is great! It shreds easily and has a comparable texture to meat.
  • Chuck Roast: Beef shreds similarly to pork, so chuck roast (or something similar) is a great substitute if you’d prefer to not have pork.

Additions:

  • Jalapeños: For our spice-loving friends, jalapeños elevate the heat of this recipe.
  • Liquid Smoke: If jalapeños aren’t enough or aren’t your jam, a Whole 30-compliant liquid smoke will work!
