The store actually sells chopped up onion and peppers in the freezer section and they are PERFECT for prepping freezer meals with ease.

In fact I specifically designed this recipe with this ingredient hack and its far from mushy. Instead enjoy the flavor these onions and peppers bring to your sauce and take your homemade pasta comfort dish to a whole new level.

5 Ingredient Tortellini Dinner

Ingredients
 
 
  • 20 oz Cheese tortellini
  • 1 lb Italian sausage
  • 16 oz Alfredo sauce jar
  • 14.5 oz diced tomatoes can
  • 12 oz Frozen diced peppers and onions bag
Instructions
 
Freezer Prep Directions:
  • Prepare a gallon freezer bag, labeling according to preferred method.
  • Add all ingredients, except tortellini, into freezer bag, except tortellini.
  • Seal bag, removing as much air as possible, and freeze for up to three months. (Freeze the tortellini in their store bought bag).
Slow Cooker Directions:
  • Thaw freezer bag in fridge 12-24 hours before cooking. 
  • Dump contents of the freezer bag into a slow cooker. 
  • Cook on low for 4-6 hours.
  • During the last 1 hour cook time, stir in tortellini, plus 1 cup water.
  • Stir, ensure Tortellini is fully cooked, serve and enjoy! (Optional: Remove sausage, and chop, then stir back into instant pot).
Instant Pot Directions
  1. Dump the contents of the freezer bag into the Instant Pot, add 1/2 cup water.
  2. Set to High Pressure for 15 minutes, followed by a quick release. 
  3. Open instant pot, set to saute, add 1/2 cup water and stir in tortellini. Cook until fully cooked, check cook time on choosen tortellini.
  4. Once tortellini is fully cooked, stir and serve. (Optional: Remove sausage, and chop, then stir back into instant pot).

  • Use gluten-free tortellini and gluten-free alfredo sauce.
 
 
Make it Dairy-Free:
  • Use dairy-free tortellini and dairy-free alfredo sauce.
